Luis Costa took his first piano lessons from Zhuang Xiao Hua when he was 8 years old. A few years later he started studying with Alvaro Teixeira Lopes, who is still his professor and has always been a great inspiration to him. In 2012 he studied under the guidance of Friedemann Rieger at the HFM Stuttgart.
Luis Costa entered few competition, being laureate in the “Le Mesnil des Arts” International Competition, the Concurso Ibérico do Alto Minho, the Santa Cecília International Music Competition (Porto) and the Prémio Jovens Músicos – Chamber Music Prize.
His career has led him to perform in cities such as Girona, Rome, Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town, Ottawa, Toronto, Montreal, Harare, Windoek, London, Frankfurt, Stuttgart, Darmstadt, Barcelona, Madrid, Leon, Brasilia in venues such as the Casa da Música (Porto), Centro Cultural de Belém (Lisbon) and the Glenn Gould Studio (Toronto), etc., and at festivals such as the Saint Pere de Rodes Festival (Catalonia), the Festival Percursos da Música (Ponte de Lima), the Ciclo Jovens Talentos (Porto), Musique en Vallée du Tarn (France) Hammerklavier Series and Festival de Musica de Besalú. He has also appeared as soloist with the Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras, the Young Orchestra of Malaga (JOPMA), the Orquestra de Câmara da Maia, Lusitanae Ensemble and Banda Militar do Porto. Luis Costa remains in frequent contact with pianist Joaquín Soriano in Madrid, also a great inspiration to him.
He dedicates a significant portion of his activities to chamber music, working with António Meneses, Lluis Claret, Hans-Peter Stenzl and Chagas Rosa.
He has recorded for Portuguese National Television RTP, for Antena 2 Radio, CHIN Radio and NBC Television. Luis Costa is represented by KNS Artist Management and recoreded two albums for KNS Classical.
